This month's chart shows how recycled water is used in different regions of the world. It comes from our recently published IDA Water Security Handbook 20182019. The East Asia/Pacific region represents more than half the total market for water reuse, largely thanks to the massive investment in water recycling in China over the past decade. Nearly 70% of that capacity is reused in industrial applications. The second-largest market is the Middle East and North Africa, where there is very little reuse for industrial purposes. Most recycled water in that region goes towards lower-value applications such as landscaping and agriculture. Potable reuse remains a minority taste globally, but this is likely to change as attitudes shift.
