This month's chart comes from the latest DesalData subscribers' webinar. It shows the relative volatility in demand for desalination in the GCC area compared to the rest of the world. This reflects the fact that the GCC builds desalination plants with larger individual capacities than the rest of the world, and so the market always appears more lumpy. The important point is that we are approaching a lump in the market at the moment, with Abu Dhabi asking for a 200MIGD (909,000m3/d) plant at Taweelah, and Saudi Arabia currently tendering for 600,000m3/d of capacity at Rabigh and 450,000m3/d at Shuqaiq. 2021 could be a painful year globally as a result.
